Theatre Video Project

Storyboard:
For my video project I have decided to do an instructional video, incorporating the how to and an example of the project. The object of the project is for the students to practice their creativity by creating a short film using music and their own surroundings at the school. They will be either creating a short intro to a "movie" or even a scene from their "movie" The "movie" is non-existent, but rather an idea. This project will test their creativity and cooperation within a group. I did a similar project in a theatre class and it was not only education, but quite fun!

For the video I will start out with myself explaining the project and then cutting to a scene of campus and with two or three different music segments, demonstrating how music can change the feel of scenery. Then I will continue explaining their project and how with that music they will be creating a 3-5 minute scene based on their song they've picked. Then the last segment of the video will be a short example of how it could turn out.

Challenges will be finding good music segments that will help any student be creative. As for the video itself, I can see a challenge in explaining the project effectively and simply so that any one can understand.

Here is my storyboard for now:

Class Website

Having never created a website, I feel like what created isn't so bad. It took a while, and I probably didn't figure everything out, but I am happy with how it turned out. I can see it being a great help when I have my own class. If I keep on learning about websites, by the time I actually am a teacher, I will have a website that will help my students.

Here it is:

Google Wave

While I was in high school, we mainly used textbooks. Computers were left for writing papers and doing homework. I don't believe a single teacher in my high school ever thought about using a class website to help further along the learning process. After creating my own website for a theatre class, I see how helpful it could be. Rather than spending time printing off paper, I could put quizzes, a calender and homework on the website. The only problem I see is if a student doesn't have a computer available, they wouldn't be able to use the website for their benefit. Having the class website for the IP&T class helps me every week to know what is due, and what projects I need to complete. It is easier and there are no papers to use. High school students are notorious for losing class handouts and schedules, and this problem is easily resolved with a class website.

I would use the website for take home quizzes and homework. Also I would provide any important lessons shared in class so the students would have the information handy. Plus students could turn in their papers and work through an online file cabinet, saving paper...and trees! Plus for theatre I could use the website for information about play practices, ideas, videos, music and playwrighting. The world is technological and I can use it for my advantage.

The Joys of Blogs and RSS Feeds

I honestly have never done a blog before, and so its a new world for me. I've always been the hands on, visual learner, but when it comes to computers I can email, write papers and maybe find a few good things online, oh and listen to music. These blogs and RSS Feeds have opened my eyes to another world within this technological world. Blogs provide a way to share with friends and family updates in life and more professionally it can provide students with opportunities to discover in a more personal and easier way. The world can be found on the computer, or in other words the world seems to be all computerized. If as teachers we can apply the computer to our lessons in one way or form, their technological minds can be more invigorated and curious to learn.

While searching for RSS feeds I didn't have luck but once I typed in the right keyword in google I was opened to a rather large selection of theatre blogs. A few I found quite interesting: http://contemporarydramanewsletter.contemporarydrama.com/public/blog/203097
This is written by a drama teacher of over 30 years. She provides resources and ideas for the theatre classroom.
http://www.theatrelinks.com/
Theatre links seems to be connected to most of the other blogs I have found. There are forums, ideas, experiences all for teachers, students and professionals.
At first the RSS feed seemed to be an even more complicated tool on the Internet but after searching and finding interesting blogs and websites I now see how useful and organized Google Reader is. In a classroom I could post a class blog with feeds in Google Reader and each student can follow up, find new ideas, and be more involved outside of the classroom. If we are working on a specific play and I want the students to help in the designing process, by finding feeds and blogs, together we can find ideas and resources and create a masterpiece.

It's all still new for me and will take a while to get used to, but I know I could use it for my benefit in my personal, current education as well as the education of my future students.

    About Me

I am inspiring to be a theatre teacher in secondary education. Currently I am enrolled in a class that is teaching me to blog and use all those computer/internet programs that I usually avoid. So far it seems to be fun!
